THE SCHNEIDER CUP
Every year, the Air Force, together with the Municipality of Desenzano and the Comitato Idroscalo (Seaplane Base Committee), celebrates the Reparto Alta Velocità (High Speed Department) by opening the Parco dell’Idroscalo (Idroscalo Park) to visitors. On display are memorabilia, technical drawings, aircraft parts and artefacts from the period and, shortly, an original scale model of the seaplane in which Francesco Agello set the world speed record in 1934 – a record which remains unbeaten to this day.
THE MILLE MIGLIA ON THE GARDA ROADS
Since 1899, an exceptional motor race has taken place on a circular route starting and ending in Brescia, via Cremona, Mantua and Verona. The route is entirely within the city limits; it is 18 km long, triangular in shape and, at Fascia d'Oro, features a 544.6-metre parabolic curve, the first to be built in Italy and one of the first in the world.
FORMULA ONE GO-KARTS
Experience a taste of real racing at South Garda Karting. In fact, karting is often the first step towards a career as a racing driver.
In addition to official races, the circuit offers kart hire for adults and children, including two-seater karts; of course, it is also possible to race in your own kart. Corporate and amateur races are organised for team building, parties, birthdays and more, with timing, medical and catering services included.

ON THE TRACK ON TWO WHEELS
The Montichiari Velodrome is a magnificent and futuristic indoor facility for track speed races. The amazing structure, reminiscent of a cyclist's helmet, opened in 2009. Disciplines that can be practised on the track include sprint, Olympic sprint, Keirin, track time trial, points race, sprint series, American or Madison, elimination race, scratch race, flying lap, team pursuit, individual pursuit and omnium.
SHOOTING
Lonato del Garda is home to Trap Concaverde, a whole world of shooting. In addition to the 12 shooting ranges, Trap Concaverde offers a practice range where beginners and novices can practice the sport under the supervision of shooting instructors, in a separate space from competitive activities. The facility was built free from architectural barriers and regularly hosts events organised by the Italian Paralympic Committee.
THE CENTOMIGLIA
The Centomiglia is always one step ahead of nautical developments. Taking place every year on Lake Garda, in September, the Centomiglia is the world's most famous and important sailing regatta. It is also the longest regatta (from 2022 in two stages) held in Europe on inland waters and the longest-running in Italy. The activities of Circolo Vela Gargnano are non-stop and aimed at everyone: courses and pre-competitive preparation for youngsters aged 6 to 15, events such as world and European championships and meetings of all the sailing federations in the world. Every season since 2011 it has also organised the European and Italian championships of all classes for sailors with motor-skills disorders and the Paralympics fleet.
FLYING ON WATER
Campione del Garda - Univela ('The university of sailing') is the place to come if you want to learn sailing and many other water sports. There are many sailing clubs in the municipalities around the lake; they organise courses and boating experiences for everyone. Equally, there are several disciplines to choose from, ranging from challenging novelties such as wing foil to kite surfing competitively with riders from the GKS Community.
SKYRUNNING
The newest arrival to Lake Garda is skyrunning, the high-altitude race, which finds its ideal setting in the upper Lake Garda area. Elsewhere, on the slopes of Valtenesi, on the dirt roads of the moraine hills, south of Desenzano and Sirmione, trekking or walking is the order of the day; but here it is all about physical and mental strength, training and pure adrenalin. For years the Limone Extreme, an international skyrunning competition, has been held here in October. Two races take place: one is the Skyrace, the other the Vertical Kilometer. The beauty of these excursions lies in being together, challenging each other and seeing the lake as you have never seen it before, for a powerfully inspiring experience.
ROWING AT THE GARDA SALO' SOCIETY
It is possible to practice rowing at the Garda Salò Rowing Society, which, founded back on 10 August 1891, is the oldest rowing association on Lake Garda. 130 years of history confirm the strong link between sport and the environment.
A beautiful water-related event is the 'Lake Flag' bisse palio, with crews from the three Garda regions. The bisse are ancient flat-bottomed rowing boats (for moving through the reeds) and used by fishermen. They are rowed standing up and the type of these boats dates back to the period of Venetian rule.
VITTORIALE
Since September 2017, the Vittoriale has housed the 'L'Automobile è Femmina' (The Automobile is Female) museum, which bears witness to Gabriele d'Annunzio's love of cars, a symbol of modernity, speed and progress. One can admire details of the FIAT Tipo 4 in which he entered Fiume and from which he never again parted, together with the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8B, his last car. Added to these is a post-war Bentley RType that belonged to Vittorio De Sica. Personal items and various trophies are on display. The display is enriched by photos and videos of official meetings, but also of more intimate moments such as the meeting with Tazio Nuvolari, to whom he gave a small turtle as a good luck charm and from which he never parted again.
Lake Garda is the perfect destination for those who love to roam freely with the wind in their hair, passing from one landscape to the next.
Here, myth and speed have been intertwined throughout history in the worlds of sports and culture: in Montichiari, the first parabolic curve in Italy, was built in 1899, while in Gardone Riviera in 1926, d'Annunzio consecrated the automobile as a household name and opened his Automobile Museum at the Vittoriale degli Italiani.
At Lake Garda, beyond the roaring of car engines, motors whizz through the air and sails flap in the wind: the world speed record for a seaplane was recorded here on Lake Garda by Francesco Agello back in 1933, and the legendary Centomiglia international regatta still takes place here, too.
Tremosine sul Garda is home to the University of Sailing, a meeting place for kitesurfing, wing-surfing and wing-foil enthusiasts from all over the world.
Let yourself be taken on a voyage of discovery, along breathtaking roads with stunning viewing points, to experience mythical milestones in the history of speed.
